With a late start I headed over to Bala as I thought the sea would be rough
today.
On arrival found that there was a triathalon at the town car park which was
closed as a result. So went over to the sailing club and found everyone
else was launching from there.
The wind appeared to be picking up as I arrived and a few people were
packing up. The late looked like it was going off :-) Rigged the 5.3m which
seemed about right from the shore.
Went out and found that it was mad out there, I was fully powered up on the
5.3 but vicious sustained gusts were coming through which when combined
with the chop and the flat out speed runs led to a few major wipeouts.
Still I got plenty of practise of the feeling of leaving the water.
In one of the wipeouts I went through the bottom panel of the 5.3 so its
back in for another repair. Changed down to the 4.5m and found that when
the wind kicked in I was still maxed out with that although left
floundering at times when it dropped off.
Some gybe practise too I was getting close on a few attempts but it was
pretty gusty and bumpy out there which made it tricky.
All in all an excellent, if mad, session :-) Would have been 5 stars but
for the bust sail.
